The Beauties of Apple Cider Vinegar

July 11, 2018

Apple Cider Vinegar has a surplus of uses and benefits. Clearly, Apple Cider Vinegar; or ACV for short, aids not only internally but externally as well. Today, we will focus on the latter. Just in case you don't know how ACV is made, let's bring you up to speed. We start with apple cider and add yeast. The yeast ferments the sugars in the apple cider which turns them into alcohol. Acetic acid, the main active compound in vinegar, is then formed when the alcohol is further fermented after the addition of bacteria. Something that newcomers might not know about is what we call "the Mother," it is believed to carry most of the sought-after health benefits within ACV. You need to have unfiltered, organic apple cider vinegar for the best benefits.  It is known to carry good bacteria, stands of proteins, and enzymes that cause its cloudy appearance. Now we move on to the juicy information.

Apple Cider Vinegar is antibacterial and antimicrobial, a natural exfoliant, an acne fighter, antifungal, antiaging, known to help with sunburns and stinky armpits and it helps regulate your oil production as well as your pH. Antibacterial and antimicrobial properties carried by ACV have supported in the healing of skin ailments since Hippocrates was around. As you would guess, antibacterial means that ACV prohibits the growth of bacteria and antimicrobial means that it prohibits the growth of organisms. Side step but ACV is also a great wash for your fruits and vegetables because of these two qualities. ACV has been used to treat skin conditions such as warts, lice, nail fungus and ear infections.  Now I know when you hear acid, unnatural comes to the forefront of the mind but Mother Nature created these acids and when used correctly, they are completely safe. The type of acids that ACV contains are considered alpha-hydroxy acids, or AHA's. There are many types of AHA's but the ones contained in ACV are acetic and malic acids. Acetic acid is contained in vinegar and malic acid is carried in apples. These acids assist in removing the top layers of the skin but don't worry, this doesn't mean you will be left a bloody mess with very little skin. It just means that the top layers of your skin that were already on their way out the door are just exiting sooner. Much like when you use a scrub that is eliminating the dead skin cells and revealing younger, more youthful skin. This method of exfoliating is known as physical exfoliation while using any type of acids is known as a chemical exfoliation. Both are useful, you just need to know when to use either. These acids can also increase the thickness of deeper layers of skin which promotes firmness. Since the main cause of acne stems from having unfriendly bacteria on your face, you can believe that ACV fights these bacteria, with being antibacterial, so that you no longer have this troublesome skin issue. Like stated earlier, ACV is antifungal and will fight fungus that finds its way to your body. If you suffer from a sunburn or insect bite, ACV can help alleviate the pain. For sunburns, simply apply ACV and water (25/75 mix) with a cotton cloth or washcloth directly to the skin to cool and relieve pain. You can also soak in a bath of warm water with 1 cup ACV. For bug bites, apply a 50/50 mixture directly to the bite, or soak the area in vinegar water. If you have some stinky armpits, just rub some ACV on them and the antifungal and antibacterial benefits will make that problem go away. ACV balances the pH of your skin and that is a benefit that helps most skin issues in itself. So many benefits make natural, organic apple cider vinegar heaven sent.
